Grasping

This work was made while contemplating the ways that femininity is diminished as both a frivolity and a threat. The delicacy of the hand and serpent as they reach upwards, as well as the villainization of each for such temerity.

A Closer Look

This piece was a second iteration, or perhaps the snake vase was a prototype. I sought fluidity between the hand and the snake, a suggestion of movement that a vase is rarely capable of.

Little details are my favorite kind, and I quite adore the hand’s painted nails. There’s a softness in them that does not take away from either being’s presence in the piece.
