Two Lovers

An ambitious exploration of form and function, the light of this lamp softly illuminates the lovers. The scene depicts an intimate moment outside of time and space, somewhere between civilization and the wilderness that is continually creeping back in.

A Closer Look

Two Lovers Lamp, Illuminated

Constructing this piece was quite involved, and really fun to figure out. The top, bottom, collar, and columns were thrown, while the internal scene and florals are sculpted. The florals on the base and top are a mix of additive and subtractive techniques, adding clay and then carving away to refine it.

And then there was light! Inspired by mineral oil lamps popular in the 70’s, I wanted to create a world within the structure of the piece. The lovers exist for that moment, for one another in that moment, and yet their light shines beyond themselves and their world.

Also, sapphic daydreams.
