Relief Carved Mush Cauldron with Legs

$65.00
sold out
This ceramic cauldron is delightful to view and to handle, with the mushrooms carved in relief and an intriguing bubbling texture on their caps. A great addition to a shelf, desk, or ledge, it sits atop 3 hand-shaped legs. Inspired by old cooking pots, this piece was an experiment with slip application and carving.

*Due to some clouding with the glaze and two cracks on the bottom of the piece, this cauldron has been discounted accordingly!

Made from white midfire stoneware, this piece was coiled, hand carved, and decorated with colored slip. They were fired, glazed with a transparent, food safe glaze, and then fired for a second time.

The ceramics in this set are inspired by mushrooms, and the forests they inhabit. While the main focus of the set was on sculpture, this collection also explored a more minimal application of colored slips, while experimenting with brushstrokes and texture.
